‘We have thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing stay at this very comfortable and well provisioned Gite. We were made very welcome by Jo and Paul, who must have had so many other things to arrange (as new arrivals here themselves). The Gite itself was beautifully prepared for us and the good quality linen and kitchen ware was greatly appreciated and helped us to really enjoy this little snapshot of French rural life.

Top visits for us were Chinon (just to wander around), Bourgeil market (Tuesday. Plus a visit to the local Maison des Vins in the square, and Fontenvraud Abbey (stunning). It has been a lovely, slow-paced and relaxing week that we would heartily recommend to others.’

We arrived feeling very weary…and now as we sadly leave this lovely Gite we feel completely refreshed. Jo and Paul have been fantastic, such kind, helpful hosts. We have visited some delightful towns and villages, Fontevraud Abbey being a highlight. Sitting in the sunshine, in the lovely main square having a coffee in the town of Chinon was memorable, well worth a visit. We shall be back to this beautiful part of France, and will without doubt recommend ‘La Petite Maison de Sue’ to our friends. A wonderful holiday. Thank you both so much. Xx.

Georgia, James and Laras

Thank you for the lovely warm welcome, we found the gite very comfortable (especially its beds and bedlinen) and very well equipped. Despite rain and wind, we were cosy and warm. We enjoyed discovering the surrounding towns and countryside, but due to our family commitments, didn’t make any big visits – hopefully next time! You’re in a lovely quiet setting and we slept like logs, nothing to wake us in the mornings. Thank you again, and see you again.

Our first visit to the Loire Valley and it will not be our last. We have loved staying in La Petite Maison de Sue. The peace and tranquillity and fabulously comfy bed have meant we have slept like logs!! The Gite is so well equipped that is really has felt like home from home. We have visited some fabulous places: the highlights being Fontevraud and Villandry. We enjoyed a wonderful meal at Le Bouff’tard in Hommes, only 15 minutes’ drive away – thanks for the recommendation Jo, we loved it. We didn’t get to many markets this trip (due to the comfy bed!) but hope to return in the not too distant future. Thanks for the lend of the bikes – we loved our ride out to Lac de Rille on virtually traffic free roads and tracks. All in all a great holiday.

We are on the ferry home but wanted to say what a wonderful holiday we have just had at La Petite Maison de Sue. A proper home from home with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. We loved the peace and views across the fields. Thank you for looking after us Joanne xx

Such a delightful find – this gorgeous little Gite tucked away in the French countryside.  The house itself is very special – spacious rooms decked out most tastefully and stocked with all home comforts.  The outside space was just perfect and caught the sun most of the day and gave us a wonderful viewpoint to watch the sunsets.  We visited quite a number of chateaux and ‘met up with’ Catherine de Medici, Joan of Arc, Mary Queen of Scots and Richard the Lionheart.  We browsed the markets, sampled as many of the varieties of great French food as we could justify (especially the cheeses, oh, and the cakes and….).

Jo was so helpful and friendly, not only in supplying lots of info and tips, but even the makings of a hot toddy when my husband developed the cold of all colds!  A very special lady who seemed a close friend within two weeks.  We will certainly be spreading the word to friends!

A thousand thanks, Jo – and Kargo!

Rita and Frank

We have just spent a phenomenal 10 days at this venue, and it is out of this world – literally. right in the heart of rural France; the loudest noise is the birds, and the sound a lizard makes, scurrying across the chippings! And yet, it seems, the gite is only about half an hour away from everything: Chateaux, Wine ‘caves’, Troglodyte dwellings, Abbey, gardens, and the odd Zoo, not to mention, some really good places to eat (and drink!). Coupled with all this is the charming hospitality of its owner, Jo, for whom it seems, nothing is too much trouble, be it for information about the gite or the locality. All in all, a prize package, and well worth the money!

Had a wonderful stay – combining peace and tranquillity with some amazing sightseeing.

The gite itself was perfectly equipped with everything we needed for a very comfortable stay.  So many thoughtful touches made it a real home from home.  Paul and Jo really have thought through all the things that can sometimes be overlooked in a gite – nothing was missing!

Our first visit to the Loire Valley, so explored the nearest chateaux and recommendations: small market in Noyant, Lac de Rille, Chateau de Giseux, Saumur, Chinon (chateau and boat trip), wine tasting in Bourgueil, Villandry, Son et Lumiere at Amboise – not to mention the bike rides, picnics by the river, reading in the sun and cooking/eating some of our favourite French food.

It feels like we have only just scratched the surface of this beautiful region.  There is so much left for our next visit!

Just what we needed!

A wonderful stay at Jo and Paul’s beautiful gite: La Petite Maison de Sue.  We have explored chateaux, caves and also managed to relax in this idyllic countryside.  Our hosts seem to hit just the right level of support, and yet retain the guests’ privacy – ideal!

Many thanks again.

Alistair, Emma and Edward

The Gite took our breath away at first glance!!  It has provided us with the perfect base to explore this beautiful countryside.  Fantastic days out to chateaux, villages, towns and even lakes and beaches.  Jo and Paul offered us excellent ideas for places to visit, which really filled the days with fun and exploring.  Thank you both for going out of your way to accommodate our little family.  Edward (aged 2) was made to feel welcome and, importantly, safe – going the extra mile to fit stairgates, provide a bath and a cot was such a lovely touch that didn’t go unnoticed –thank you so much.  We have all had a lovely time and will be recommending your beautiful place to all who ask.  In addition, having English BBC TV during the Olympics was a real bonus!

Lyn and John

What a gem, as John said on arrival ‘I have a good feeling about this place’.  We certainly fell on our feet!!  Everything about the property is excellent: it is well equipped and has all the finishing touches to make it attractive and comfy – nothing forgotten.  The lovely garden was really appreciated.  Jo’s friendly and helpful approach is spot on and her kindness is exceptional.

The situation of La Petite Maison de Sue is ideal for walking, cycling, just being lazy, or for travelling further afield – though not too far from this area’s many attractions.

All in all, a slice of heaven.

Highly recommended.  Many thanks Jo (and Kargo)

Sheila and Rob

We have had a glorious week.  What a charming Gite.  As others have said, there are so many thoughtful touches and Jo’s hospitality is wonderful.

We have visited lots of different places, and particularly enjoyed the Chateau de Gizeux and Le Lathan at Breil.  Also the Lac de Rille and the riverside spots at Cande St Martin.  The peace and tranquillity of the area is so relaxing and the stars on clear night quite breathtaking.

We took the bikes out each evening for a local ride to explore the immediate surroundings; what a joy on the quiet roads.

Thank you Jo – we will certainly be back to explore around here again and enjoy the garden and terrace too

P.S. The mille feuille from the Boulangerie in Parcay came highly recommended!

Duncan and Lisa

Lisa and I have had a wonderful few days visiting chateaux, walking, bike riding and of course, eating and drinking!  A marvellous location with peace and quiet, but still within easy travelling distance of the other attractions of the Loire.

Our hosts, Paul and Jo, could not have been more accommodating, thoughtful, or better company.

We shall certainly be returning to this idyllic location to enjoy more of its charms.  Neither of us could recommend La Petite Maison de Sue more highly, and we are already looking forward to our return.

Chris and Yvette

We decided to come for a last minute winter break, and thankfully Jo was able to accommodate us at short notice.

We have visited the Loire Valley before in the summer, and were eager to find out what the winter experience would be.  Pleasantly surprised to find all the usual attractions, shops and restaurants were open.

Despite the cold temperature and fog for a few days, the beauty of the area was enhanced by the blanket of white frost.  Walks to the Lac du Rille from here through the woods were especially enjoyable.  You feel like you are the only people on the planet.  And then you have the cosy Gite to return to with the roaring log fire: heaven!

Many thanks Jo (and if you ever feel like selling, let us know)

What a magnificent place, the house if just what we wanted. Thanks to Jo for being there and making sure that we had a wonderful stay. We visited the town of Montsoreau with its beautiful castle, Langeais, Saumur and Chinon. A place not to miss is the Bioparc zoo of Doué-La-fontaine which is amazing.

Thanks again.

Raymond and Jan

We have had a lovely week with wonderful weather and very much enjoyed our stay, revisiting the Saumur area, with trips to Amboise and the surrounding countryside.  It was lovely to help Jo celebrate her birthday with friends and neighbours and to return each evening to this beautiful little house.  Thank you for everything and all good wishes for all the sunny days to come.

Brian and Margaret

What a lovely break we have had  – The Loire Region has been a delight, with the weather varying from 20 to 40 degrees, so an interesting contrast!  We enjoyed the lovely towns and village markets, but most of all we enjoyed being spoilt, nay pampered by Joanne who was a treasure of a hostess.  Thank you so much for giving us such a wonderful stay.

Janine and Mark

An amazing stay, with everything we could have wished for, including a heatwave!  The gite is very well equipped and we felt very much at home.  Jo and Paul were great hosts and were very welcoming.

We enjoyed visiting many of the local chateaux, and sampled lunch at the Café de la muse which was great value.

We would definitely recommend the Gite to our friends and will return.

Caroline and Bob (and Olive the car)

We loved it here so much last September that we came back for two weeks this year.  Despite slightly unpredictable weather, we’ve had a lovely restful time.  Once again Jo has made us feel so much at home that we don’t want to leave.  This pretty little gite has everything you need and more besides and Jo went out of her way to accommodate our occasional requests.

A very peaceful spot in open countryside with places to walk immediately outside the door.  We met and talked to some lovely people, both French and English, and felt very welcome.  We hope to be back again before too long.

Anne and Fred

A truly restful, relaxed atmosphere in the most tranquil, quiet area, the only noise is of the birds and a braying donkey!  Add that to the beautiful weather and lots of places to visit close by has meant a delightful stay at La Petite Maison de Sue.

Thank you Jo
